IMM at work in Ethiopia

Ethiopia covers an area of 1,100,580 sq km and a population of 110 million people. The Capital City Addis Ababa has a population of 5 million people.

IMM's partnership with the Ethiopian Addis Kidan Baptist Church began in 1999 and has seen growth and development year on year. 26 local churches have been planted and 6 out-reaches to date in Guji Zone. Currently 22 Pastors are supported by the IMM 18 in the Guji Zone and 4 in Benshangul region.  Some churches like Kibre Mengist, Hiyu Kombole, Wadera and Erba Muda have been supported financially to build meeting halls.  In the current Ethiopian context, if there is a meeting hall on its’ own land, the church can survive in the area by proclaiming the Good News.

Evangelism is a hugh part of the work of any church whether in Ethiopia or the UK.  Pastors in Shakisso take the Gospel message out to the community and Pastor Enjifeta Adane at Adola Church presents the gospel on the world wide PJTV ETHIOPIA TV

Church visits are undertaken by leaders to encourage and consult with pastors about their expansion, and discipleship plans. These visits help to develop and maintain good relationships and encourage working together to achieve the same goal for the advancement of the Kingdom.

Beletew Kebede, who retired recently as The President of the Ethiopia Addis Kidan Baptist Church,  wrote to the IMM with these encouring words.

‘First and foremost, I glorify God who is the author of our ministry and life.  As one of the leaders I do not have enough words to convey my deep appreciation for the great partnership that the IMM community has rendered to advance the Kingdom in Ethiopian mining communities. There is much to be done.  Your partnership has enabled us to reach the unreached community and to train our pastors and church leaders.

We welcome Taye Degefu as the New President from September 2024 and look forward to our continuing partnership in reaching the unchurched communities of mining regions in Ethiopia.

Rev Tafadzwa Chikudo visited the Mazambane gold mine, where he met two groups of miners. He noticed one young man had a great need of salvation in Christ. He had run away from home and was now involved in drink and drugs. After two hours of conversation and counselling the young man acknowledged his sin and accepted Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord. Preparations to arrange for him to return to his family to seek forgiveness and reconciliation are in hand. Praise God.
